Week 4 Reading Reflection

In reading Chapter 5 "Innovation: The Creative Pursuit of Ideas," I learned how to find opportunities and how to look for them on a daily basis.

  • What stood out the most for me in this reading was that creativity is something that can be developed and improved over time. I always thought creativity was something you either were good or bad at and nothing could change that. This reading helped me realize that there are phases and processes to help improve creativity. Exercises and experiences make this process easier.
  • The only part of the reading that was confusing for me was the muddling mind-sets section. I understand the concept and how your mind set has an effect on the work that you can do, but some of the processes are somewhat confusing.
  • I would ask the author how he evaluates his creativity from project to project. I think this is important because once you evaluate your work, you can think of ways to improve it for the future. I would also ask the author his opinion on how innovation is going to continue to develop with the changes in technology we are seeing today. Technology is improving everyday and it is having a serious effect on innovation in multiple industries.
  • I somewhat disagree with the author when he talks about how technology is not the driving force of innovation success. I think technology has a huge effect on innovation and the new products and ideas we see from day to day.
